A GROUP of youngsters will entertain crowds at a major sporting event this weekend.

Sixty students from Dowdales School, Dalton, will perform trackside at the British Grand Prix on Saturday as part of a huge dance project organised by Pro-Excel Dance.

The performance at Silverstone will see the students join dancers from other schools and dance groups to perform as the Formula One stars, including Lewis Hamilton, prepare for qualifying ahead of Sunday's race.

Laura Waddington, head of performing arts, said: "A 4am departure on Saturday will be worth it to perform at one of the greatest sporting events in the world.

"This is such an amazing opportunity for our students. They've worked so hard in rehearsals and I am sure that they will make the school proud."

Ahead of the performance, the students have under taken 22 hours of intense rehearsal time to learn the eight-minute performance piece, created by choreographer Jodie Brown.
