Applicants should live in Dalton or Newton and be between the ages of eight and 16-years-old.

The young royal family will take on civic duties at the carnival and represent the youth of Dalton at other events throughout the year.

Neil McDougall, Dalton Carnival's chairman, said: "This is a fabulous opportunity to be involved with a local community cause, supporting an important part of our heritage and in doing so taking part in lots of activities that others not in their position would ever get the chance to.

"Last year's queen Grace Milner has done a fantastic job of representing Dalton Carnival.

"We hope Grace has enjoyed her year and being involved with other events going on in the town over the last 12 months.

"We have had a great turnout over the last few years and hopefully the weather will be kind to us as we are looking forward to another great Dalton Carnival this year."

The closing date for applicants is Sunday March 5.

The young applicants must apply to the selection committee in writing by letter to Carnival Royalty, c/o Dalton Town Hall, Station Road, Dalton, or by email to daltoncarnival@gmail.com.

The application must include details of name, age, address and explain why they want to get involved. Parent/guardian contact details are also required as permission is needed from them to enter.
