CHILDREN were over the moon today when the Premier League Trophy was brought into their school.

Dalton St Mary's CE Primary School is part of the Premier League Star Programme, which gave the children the opportunity to meet some Premier League staff and ask questions about the trophy this morning as well as engaging in fun activities.

Representatives of League clubs Blackpool FC and Morecambe FC were at the school leading sport and classroom sessions around healthy living and how to be a team player.

Children ran round the playground with huge smiles on their faces and posed proudly with the trophy.

It was Kevin Plumb, director of legal services at Premier League, who made it possible for the trophy to come to the school today.

Jez Weeks, who works for the Premier League, was at the school with his team.

He said: "We have been running several competitions; parents have been nominating schools as well as teachers signing up to the programme.

"We also hosted a Premier League staff competition which Kevin won and chose to bring the trophy back to his old school here in Dalton.

"It has been a fantastic opportunity to bring the trophy to Cumbria and we managed to link with local football clubs too."

The Star Programme is an initiative by the Premier League to engage all 19,000 schools across England and Wales by providing free resources for teachers and engaging young people in PE lessons.

Mr Weeks addressed the pupils at assembly, which was followed by a meet and greet with mascot Bloomfield the bear. The children then moved outside to learn how to be a team player with some of the Morecambe coaches and learn all about healthy living with Blackpool coaches.

Mr Plumb said: "I had a brilliant seven years here when I was young. I've still got loads of memories from being here and could tell you all of my teachers' names.

"To be able to bring the trophy here was a nice opportunity for me to say thank you to the school and for the Premier League to say thank you for being part of the Primary Stars."

Mr Plumb was absolutely delighted the trophy could be brought to the school.

He said: "I am absolutely delighted that everyone is having a great time and it is a proper morning for them, it hasn't just been a trophy coming.

"It's weird coming back here to the school but it hasn't changed much at all. It has brought back a lot of great memories.

"I got a brilliant tour from the head boy and head girl who are little superstars."
