THE new Crooklands footbridge is now in place and set to open to the public next month.

The crossing, know locally as “forty steps” over the railway tracks between Dale Terrace to Tantabank in Dalton, was closed in April.

Network Rail say they had to replace the old bridge with a new concrete one.

Contractors worked through the night over the weekend.

It will re-open on July 31.

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “Replacing the footbridge with a stronger, more reliable structure will preserve safe access across the railway for years to come. The work has been planned to cause the minimum impact on local people and to be completed as quickly and safely as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
