A HUGE indoor soft play area is set to be unveiled at Dalton zoo.

South Lakes Safari Zoo has announced plans to install a large indoor soft play area at the Dalton site, as part of its investment which bosses have called the Trading Post.

As well as a large indoor soft play zone, the zoo is investing in its gift shop, a new restaurant and ice cream parlour and an enlarged outdoor adventure play area.

The new facilities are expected to be unveiled at some point in 2017. From January, a new company is expected to be in charge of the attraction, after Barrow Borough Council refused to renew David Gill's licence.

The investment announcement follows the news that the zoo will offer visitors a special price during the Winter.

Starting from Saturday October 22, entry for adults and children will be free at Dalton zoo, as long as adults each purchase a £6 events wristband, entitling them to take part in giraffe and lemur feeding, and a ride on the road train and steam train.

Tickets are normally £16.50 for adults and £9 for children. Normal prices will be reintroduced from February 28.

The zoo has historically introduced a 'free entry' offer during the Winter months, when visitor numbers drop due to the colder weather.
