A SUCCESSFUL Furness teenager was delighted to be in the placings at the world's most famous horse show.

Ellie Kirkbride, of Dalton, was awarded a sixth place at Horse of the Year Show yesterday.

The 14-year-old Ulverston Victoria High School pupil rode Hopgarden Playboy at the show, which was held at the NEC in Birmingham .

The pair competed in the Coloured Ridden Non-Native Pony of the Year class, which was sponsored by CHAPS (UK).

They qualified for the prestigious event by winning at the Royal Highland Show this summer.

Ellie rides the four-year-old pony for his owner Rebecca McColl. The pony is produced by Emma Boardman.

Ellie's mum, Lisa Kirkbride said: "He went superbly, it was fabulous."

The teen also competed her own pony, Tremarl Bumble Bee, in the Topham Barnes 143cm show hunter pony class at the NEC.

This was Ellie's second year at the Horse of the Year Show. Last year she was placed sixth with Techon Tomos in the Topham Barnes 133cm Show Hunter Pony of the Year class.

Dalton shire horse breeders Glenys and John Dodd were proud to have one of their Burlington Park horses competing yesterday.

Burlington Park Tudor - known as Big Trev - was 10th in the new British Ridden Heavy Horse Championship with his owner Emma Green.

Miss Dodd, said: "It was great to see them at HOYS. He went really well, and what a gallop. He was impeccably turned out."

Also competing from the Furness area were Lottie Mayvers, of Ulverston, Ulverston Victoria High School pupil Ellie Simmonds and Kate Wilson, of Dalton.
