PUPILS from different church schools went head to head in a pancake flipping race.

Dalton St Mary's CE Primary School hosted an afternoon of pancake races to mark Shrove Tuesday and the start of Lent.

This was the first ever joint pancake race and it was contested by Burlington, Church Walk, Dalton St Mary’s, Low Furness, Pennington, St George’s and St Paul’s CE primary schools.

Unfortunately St James’ and Ireleth St Peter's CE schools were unable to attend due to other commitments.

Low Furness CE Primary School were the overall winners and received the Pancake Shield.

The schools have been working together to develop closer relationships and this was the first event planned to include the children.

Lynda Woodburn, the headteacher of Dalton St Mary's CE Primary School, said: "It was a super afternoon with lots of fun, sportsmanship and laughter which ended in a teachers' race.

"All the children were a credit to their schools and we would like to thank them for taking the time to come to Dalton St Mary’s."

Other joint events are planned for the rest of the year, including a sports day in the summer term.
