A CUMBRIAN motorcycle group are hoping to rev up support for bikers when their rally next weekend is attended by former MP and I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star Lembit Öpik.

The Furness Motorcycle Action Group's annual Dead End Rally is set to roll in to Dalton from July 14-16, with a number of local politicians also expected to attend.

Mr Öpik, a Lib Dem MP in North Wales until he lost his seat in the 2010 general election, has made national headlines throughout his career. Many have been due to his high-profile romances with an ITV weather forecaster and one half of pop duo the Cheeky Girls. He has been the MAG's director of public relations and communications since 2013.

MAG campaigns to protect and promote motorcycling and the interests and rights of all riders.

The sixth Dead End rally will take place at Dalton United Football Club, with all proceeds going towards the MAG's Fighting Fund.

Cumbria MAG representative Michael Armstrong said: "The Fighting Fund is crucial to fund lobbying in parliament in order to secure better rights for motorcyclists. Particularly with Brexit coming, we have a great opportunity to improve bikers' rights, helped by Lembit's high public profile."

A bike ride has been organised round the Furness peninsula on the Saturday before a bike show in the afternoon, with one of the guest judges being MP Trudy Harrison.

Of a possible 200 places, only 30 are left, with pre-booking necessary for attendance. Tickets can be purchased for £15 on the Dead End Rally's Facebook page, by emailing deadend.rally@gmail.com or calling 07583 001181.
