A TROUPE of young Dalton dancers will enjoy the experience of a lifetime as they strut their stuff at the home of British motor racing.

On Saturday pupils from Dowdales School will perform in front of the packed crowds at the Silverstone racing circuit.

Sixty pupils will travel down to the iconic race track to take part in a mass dance project, organised by Pro-Excel Dance.

Dozens of hours have been dedicated to perfecting the choreography of the dance which relies heavily on creating a visual spectacle, as well as dancing skill.

Laura Waddington, head of performing arts at Dowdales said her young team were revved up and raring to go in anticipation of their big day.

She said: "It's been a fantastic opportunity. The performing arts at Dowdales is high on our priorities, it's a really good way of making a bridge between sport and getting kids active. To perform at such a big venue, at one of the most well-known sporting occasions in the world, it's amazing."

The dancers will be trackside during the qualification stage of the three-day racing event.

Superstars of the Formula One world such as Lewis Hamilton, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen will all just be a stone's throw away.

In the run up the girls have been rehearsing seven hours a day at the weekend, as well as more practice after hours at school to learn the eight-minute-long routine.

Mrs Waddington said: "It's a really tough routine it's been a real challenge for them to learn."

The work has been overseen by Jodie Brown, a choreographer from Pro-Excel. Mrs Waddington said the professional was incredibly impressed with the work the girls, who are in Years 7 to 11, have put in.

She continued: "They've done an amazing job and have responded to Jodie so professionally. They were really put through their paces, but the progress made over those weeks was remarkable, they are so professional."

Another eight groups who were approached by Pro-Excel will take part in the mass dance. Anticipation is running high, in spite of the early start required so they can get down to the Northamptonshire race course.

Mrs Waddington said: “A 4am departure on Saturday will be worth it to perform at one of the greatest sporting events in world. This is such an amazing opportunity for our students, they have worked so hard in rehearsals and I am sure that they will make the school proud."
