UNICORNS, 101 Dalmatians and a whoopee cushion were among the outfits students sported for a school's annual sponsored walk today.

The Friends of Dowdales staged the fundraising walk which saw Dowdales School students, staff, parents, and dogs run, jog or walk from the Dalton secondary to Furness Abbey and then back to the school site again.

Dan Hackett, 13, ran the event in a whoopee cushion outfit, to the amusement of his friends, while Amy Purslow, 11, went dressed as a pink unicorn.

Science teacher, Amy Preston and her form had a theme to their outfits - Disney's 101 Dalmatians.

Miss Preston, a former Dowdales student who started teaching at the school this year, was dressed as the film's villain, Cruella de Vil, while her pupils were the Dalmatians.

There were also lot of actual dogs joining in on the walk too.

Rod Waddington, an assistant head at Dowdales School congratulated everyone on the great effort that gone into the costumes for the event.

Mr Waddington said: "It's lovely to see everyone out walking and all the outfits.

"It's great that we have the parents walking with students. It has also become a bit of a dog walking extravaganza."

The funds raised will go towards supporting the students in areas beyond the curriculum.
