Dowdales in Dalton has submitted a planning application to install a portacabin to allow a pupil with special educational needs to attend art lessons.
The school's existing art facilities are on the first floor of the building and not deemed accessible to the child, who is due to start in September.
Barrow Borough Council's planning department is due to make a decision on the application by July 18.
