A CONCERT in Dalton proved to be a huge success, raising money to the tune of £1,000 for a worthy cause.

The Furness and District Fundraising Group for Marie Curie hosted an event with Barrow Male Voice Choir earlier this month to collect funds.

A total of £1,162 was raised at the concert at Chequers Hotel in Dalton, through ticket sales and various raffles.

The money will go towards funding local nurses who provide compassionate end-of-life care and overnight nursing.

After counting the total amount raised, Joan Hall, chairwoman of Furness' Marie Curie group, has praised the community for rallying together. She hopes the event will return next year after its success.

Mrs Hall said: "It was very successful and over 100 people came. We had some really nice raffle prizes donated to us.

"Lots of people said to us 'are you going to have it next year?'

"Even the Male Voice Choir said it was the best concert they had done for a while because we had guest artists give them something to listen to themselves."

The Furness group was set up in 2014 and volunteers have been busy putting on events across the area ever since.
