AN entertainment event has raised thousands of pounds to help Cumbria’s flood victims.

A successful fundraising evening hosted by Clarence House Country Hotel and Restaurant, in Dalton, this month raised around £5,000 for Cumbria Flood Recovery Appeal.

The Dalton venue gave free accommodation, bedding and towels to flood victims hit by Storm Desmond in December.

The owners then wanted to followed up the gesture with a fundraising event.

The evening was attended by more than 120 people. There was an opening speech from Tony Burbridge, a trustee of Cumbria Community Foundation, which runs Cumbria Flood Recovery Appeal.

There was also live music from Becki Fishwick and The Sidecars.

Suppliers of the hotel supported the event with donations towards the food and drink for the event.

The welcome drinks were provided by Porterage.

Those contributing to the hot and cold buffet included Brocklebanks of Dalton, Lake District Farmers, Lakes Speciality Foods, The Cheese Larder, English Lakes Ice Cream, Lake District Lobster and Seafood, and Irvings Butchers.

There was also a charity auction and raffle.

The auction prizes included the chance to have two Mercedes-Benz cars from Mercedes-Benz of South Lakes for the weekend and items from Stollers, Dandys, Barrow AFC, Barrow Raiders and others.

Callum Smith, accounts manager at Clarence House Country Hotel and Restaurant, who was one of the organisers, said: “The event was a fantastic success, there was a really, really good atmosphere. It was a very positive event for a very worthwhile cause.”

From Thursday to Saturday next week, Clarence House Country Hotel and Restaurant will host and sponsor the fourth annual Lake District Farmers Armstrong Family Charitable Fund celebrity chef event.
