A young apprentice from Dalton was the proud recipient of a north west health and safety award at a ceremony in Bolton last week.
Glen Dacre is employed by Jacobs Stobbarts and has recently completed an advanced apprenticeship in occupational work supervision with Barrow Training Partnership.
For his work in making construction sites safer places, he was awarded the Occupational Health and Safety Young Person of the Year Award, 2017.
Mr Dacre said: "I am immensely proud of the recognition received for the efforts made, and for this award. I was shocked and surprised to learn I had been nominated, let alone won. Thank you all."
The North Manchester Health and Safety Advisory Group (NMHSAG) run the awards annually and were very impressed with the nomination presented for Mr Dacre.
Dr Chris Bamber, secretary of the NMHSAG, said: "The nomination points out that even though occupational health and safety is not his chosen career path, Glen has shown excellent commitment to OH&S with his loyalty to his team mates, his honest reporting and his knowledge of risk assessments.
"It is exactly young people like Glen, that we wish to support and encourage so that they can be proud knowing that they have been recognised for their positive impact on safety in the work place."
Lee Holliday, safety officer for Jacobs Stobbarts, said: "This is an outstanding achievement which highlights a maturity well beyond his years. In winning this award, Glen has shown he can be a fantastic ambassador for Jacobs Stobbarts Ltd and other apprentices within industry today, further strengthening relationships and improving attitudes towards health and safety."
