Belle the giraffe calf was born at South Lakes Wild Animal Park on February 18.

On March 9 Belle slipped injuring her hip and an update issued by South Lakes Wild Animal Park on Facebook today said bosses did ‘not expect it to get better for her’.

The statement said: “Update on Belle the giraffe Calf.

“So many people are enquiring about Belle who dislocated her hip in a very simple freak accident a few days after her birth, thank you for caring.

“The news is not good and we should not expect it to get better for her.

“We have arranged for one of the top zoo vets in the world to visit us next week for an opinion on what is best for her. “We are sorry we cannot say more at this time.”
