Cyclist collides with car door in Barrow

BARROW Police have appealed for information after a cyclist was injured in a collision with a car door.

The cyclist was knocked down after hitting the car at 5.10pm on Saturday.

The driver of the car, which was parked on Salthouse Road near to Marsh Street, opened the door as the cyclist was passing.

The cyclist did not take the driver’s details, believing at the time that they were uninjured, but has since received hospital treatment for a broken collarbone.

Police are appealing for the owner of the car, or anyone with information about the incident, to call 101.

Have your say

I had the same thing happen to me some years ago which resulted in a broken wrist. I've also had many near misses where I've just managed to avoid colliding with car doors being flung open. The biggest problem is the amount of motorists who park their cars in the cycle lanes along Salthouse and Roose Roadand then just throw open their car doors without even checking to see if a cyclist might be passing.

The council need to start issuing tickets to the purpetrators before someone is seriously injured or killed.
