THE Bay and Lakeland Radio are celebrating after the latest audience listening figures were published by Rajar.
The Award-winning Bay radio station, which serves the area of north Lancashire, south Cumbria and Furness now has a 42 per cent, or a 118,000 reach, the highest at the station for 12 years.
Based on reach, The Bay is the clear number one, ahead of BBC’s Radio 1 , Radio 2 and Radio 4. Within The Bay’s area, BBC Radio Cumbria’s reach is 16 per cent and Radio Lancashire 10 per cent.
Over 13 weeks, 73 per cent of the Bay’s population now tune in and its Breakfast, Mid-Morning, Drivetime and Evening shows are all number one in the market in terms of reach.
Lakeland Radio, broadcasting to the Lake District in Cumbria, has returned record breaking results, with its best figures since joining Rajar in 2008.
Both stations are part owned by the CN Group, which also publishes the Evening Mail.
The Bay is ranked third in England and Lakeland Radio fourth. Both stations are in the top five in the whole of the UK amongst all local commercial and BBC stations based on percentage reach of its market
Phil Rodgers, Programme Controller for The Bay and Lakeland Radio said: “These incredible results are testament to the hard work, creativity and focused programming at both stations. All of our presenters and news team are exceptionally knowledgeable about the areas they cover and the listening figures are a confirmation that we are firmly under the skin of the communities we serve. Coming in its 21st year on air, these results are the best early Birthday present that The Bay could ask for.”
