Cumbria produce wins Prime Minister David Cameron's seal of approval

PRIME minister David Cameron couldn’t resist dropping in to a special event which showcased the finest of Cumbria’s culinary scene.
Mr Cameron visited the special Cumbria Day event held in the Jubilee Room of the House of Commons, in London yesterday, organised by Cumbria’s six MPs.
Visitors crammed into the room to sample everything from Cumbrian cheeses to award-winning beers.
Mr Cameron sampled produce from across south Cumbria including offerings from Green’s Pies, Barrow, and Hardknott Brewery, Millom.
The PM plumped for a beef pie which he described as “not too salty”. He also told staff from Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding Company how his children “love” their sticky toffee pudding.
Speaking to producers, Mr Cameron said: “At a time when people are worried about ‘What’s in the food I buy – is it what it says on the tin?’, it’s momentous for local producers to say you can be sure.”
Producers from across the county took the opportunity to share their wares with MPs while organisations including Mountain Rescue, Cumbria Tourism and the Lake District National Park Authority were all in attendance.
Broadcaster and farmer Eric Robson, chairman of Cumbria Tourism, said: “We are the premier rural destination in the UK and the second best-known brand outside of London.
“The point was to have our voice heard and to lobby ministers about some of our problems. It’s been a great showcase for the county.”
Addressing the room following Prime Minister’s Questions he said: “This week of all weeks when there is so much concern about food quality and labelling, this is a welcome opportunity for local producers and retailers to step forward and say we really do focus on quality.”
Morag Hopkins, from HMP Haverigg’s smokery, said: “It’s great – it’s the chance to highlight yet another positive aspect of the prison. Lots of people have worked towards this success.”
Carol McArthur, of Green’s in Barrow, said: “It’s been brilliant – there’s been a lot of interest, mainly in our pork and black pudding pie.”
Paul Swann, of Ulverston Brewing Company, said: “It’s an honour to have been invited. There are so many good breweries where we are.”

It was nicely done but under the flag of CUMBERLAND not CUMBRIA as they are different as registered with the proper authorities. On posting my comment I put Workington, SCOTLAND as the council ,ALLERDALE HOUSE is flying the SCOTTISH FLAG not the English flag (the cross of St.George).
