THE out-of-hours GP service covering Cumbria has been ranked in the top 10 per cent in the country after a national survey.
Cumbria Health on Call provides care, treatment and support for 499,000 people.
When patients were asked if they knew how to contact their out-of-hours GP, 69 per cent surveyed said yes; the second highest percentage of England’s 221 Clinical Commissioning Group areas.
Dr David Rogers, medical director for NHS Cumbria CCG said: “We are very pleased with the results from the GP Patient Survey in relation to the out-of-hours GP service.
“CHoC provides care, treatment and support to the whole of the county. To receive such a positive response from the Cumbrian community quite clearly shows they are providing a safe and effective service that meets patient needs.
“We acknowledge the hard work of all the staff and GPs at CHoC to provide such a well-received service and we would like to congratulate them.”
When asked whether the speed of care delivery was “about right”, 68 per cent of patients agreed – the 10th highest in the country.
Susan Blakemore, managing director of CHoC, said: “The views and experience of patients are essential to the service provided.
“The organisation is extremely pleased with the feedback and will continue to ensure that the experience of all patients is at the heart of everything that CHoC aims to deliver.
“This report also reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment of all the teams across the county who strive to provide a safe, high quality, out-of-hours service”
Elsewhere 42 per cent of patients said ChoC was “very easy” to contact – the eighth-highest percentage in the country.
Patients also ranked the service highly when asked if they had trust in out-of-hours clinicians and whether they rated their overall experience of the service.
The survey was carried out on behalf of NHS England by Ipsos Mori.
