Cumbria MPs support the Big Clean

MPS have backed a campaign to clean up our communities.

The Evening Mail’s Big Clean is returning for a second year from June 16-24 and has been backed by Barrow Borough Council, Copeland Borough Council, South Lakeland District Council, and Centrica.

MPs across South and West Cumbria have called for communities to roll up their sleeves and take part in events across South and West Cumbria.

Barrow and Furness MP John Woodcock, who in the past has joined in during a litter-pick at Earnse Bay, said: “We should all take pride in the places where we live and, if we are able, do our bit to improve those communities.

“The Big Clean is a welcome initiative that combines community involvement with the important objective of tidying up the area. It gets my full support.”

Tim Farron, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, said: “I wholeheartedly support the North West Evening Mail and their Big Clean up campaign. I get involved in as many litter picks as possible because it is fantastic to see the community pull together and work to make a difference.’’

Jamie Reed, MP for Copeland, said: “I want to see our streets free from dog fouling and litter which are caused by an inconsiderate few.

“We’re proud of our community and we should all show it. This means that this kind of activity must not be accepted or tolerated.

“Respect is the foundation of a solid community.’’
