Cumbria girl’s 147-mile charity bicycle ride

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD Cumbria girl is spending her summer holidays cycling more than 100 miles to raise £1,000 for charity.

Ella Parker, who has already raised £900 in pledges and donations through her just giving website, is cycling 147.5 miles to raise money for Alice’s Escapes.

Joined on the epic journey by her mother, Gina Parker 38, her father Michael Parker, 39, and her 20-month-old brother Zac, Ella will be covering the same distance that is cycled on the longest day on the Tour de France.

The family from Great Urswick began their challenge on Saturday and on her first ride Ella covered just over eight miles following La’al Ratty trainline from Dalegarth to Ravenglass.

In total they have completed 35.5 miles of their target, leaving another 112 miles to go.

Ella’s aim is to reach £1,000 in donations and her reasons for doing the super cycle is to “help people, be kind and get fit.”

The family aim to have completed the target by August 31, where there will be a finishing event held at the General Burgoyne pub in Great Urswick.

Alice’s Escapes is based in the South Lakes and provides holidays for seriously ill children and their families.

The charity was formed in April 2012 by Alice Pyne whose “vision was to enable every sick child to enjoy a holiday with their family – an escape where they could be looked after from start to finish and simply enjoy being together.”

Alice lost her battle to cancer in 2013 and the charity has since been run by her family and friends.

Ella said: “I think this challenge is going to be really hard and I’m a bit scared.”

To support Ella please donate through www.justgiving.com/Ella-Zac-Parker/ or donations can be handed in to the General Burgoyne pub.
