Continental outfit bring cajun flavour to Ulverston

INTERNATIONAL multi-award-winning band The Cajun Roosters are headline names at the monthly South Lakes Music Partnership show in Ulverston on Friday.

AWARD WINNERS: Cajun Roosters

They have a reputation as one of the most authentic Cajun and zydeco bands around, which has put them in the forefront of the scene and earned them headline festival appearances in Germany, France, Netherlands, UK, Denmark, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Austria, Belgium and Italy.

The Anglo-German band were special guests at SLMP’s 10th anniversary show back in 2012, and return to showcase their unique swamp blues style. They play music from the Louisiana swamps and prairies north west of New Orleans, which sees the fiddle and accordion weave their magic spell over unsuspecting audiences.

At the recent Cajun French Music Awards - ‘the Cajun Grammys’ - in Louisiana, they picked up the Prix D’Hors Award for bands from outside the US Cajun region, while new album, Hell Yeah, has received worldwide acclaim.

As well as their UK and US dates, the band have also carved out a reputation as one of the most popular headline bands on the summer outdoor stage circuit winning over big audiences in city squares all over Europe, many of whom have never heard the genre before.

The band were formed when legendary accordion player Chris Hall and drummer Sam Murray, both from England joined forces with three former members of The Cajun Pioneers.

On Friday night they perform at Ulverston Sports and Social Club, in Priory Road, at 8.15pm, and tickets are available on the door.
