THE A5087 near Conishead Priory had to be closed yesterday after an accident.
Police were called to a serious accident on the coast road between Barrow and Ulverston at around 5.30pm.
The collision occurred on the A5087 near Conishead Priory at the junction with the Eden Lodge Hotel.
The incident involved one vehicle, a Ford Fiesta, which overturned after hitting a tree. The male driver had to be freed from the car and suffered injuries in the collision. He was flown to the Royal Preston Hospital by air ambulance.
The road was closed for over three hours whilst the scene was made safe, with traffic diverted on alternative routes.
Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the incident or who seen the car driving on the coast road to get in contact. Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Kevin Latham at the Ulverston Roads Policing Unit on 101.
