Change of plan for Ulverston Sainsbury’s

SAINSBURY’S has unveiled updated plans for a supermarket in Ulverston.
Following a public consultation in May, the supermarket giant has made changes to its initial plans, ahead of submitting a planning application.
The new drawings show that the service yard has been moved away from the road and a service vehicle entrance from the A590 has been scrapped.
Jo Hawley, Sainsbury’s regional development executive, said: “We were really pleased with the feedback we received.
“We had almost 600 responses, 60 per cent of which were in favour of our plans.
“There were a number of suggestions, however, and we have tried to incorporate as many of these as possible into the updated proposals.”
Other changes to the plans include adding a filter lane on the A590 for cars turning right onto Pennington Lane and increasing the amount of space available for local businesses.
Sainsbury’s said, of the people it consulted on its plans, nearly three in four do at least part of their weekly shopping outside Ulverston.
Mrs Hawley added: “The written feedback largely confirmed what we were told at the public exhibition – a large proportion of people in the town travel to places like Barrow to do their main food shopping, taking this money outside of Ulverston.
“We believe our store can help keep some of this money in the town, and are extremely encouraged by the level of support we have received so far.”
Sainsbury’s representatives will be in the Coronation Hall, in County Square, between 11am and 7pm on Friday to discuss the plans.
Residents have until Friday August 17 to have their say on the latest plans, using information leaflets that are being posted around Ulverston.
Sainsbury’s claims its plans for a 20,000 sq ft food store, petrol station and customer restaurant will create around 150 jobs, with the business units adding approximately 200 more.

Haha! A third garage will force the others to sell their fuel cheaper, haha!
What planet are you on?All garages in Furness are within pennies of each other, they always are. Sainsbury's garage, should it ever appear. will simply join in with the same pricing regime.
There may well be many justifications for wanting another supermarket in Furness but cheap fuel isn't one of them.
