British Transport Police want to speak to the man and woman about the incident between Martport and Workington.

Passengers on a Northern Rail service between Maryport and Workington were verbally assaulted by a man and a woman on Tuesday shortly before 4pm.

A 21-year-old woman from Egremont was threatened during the incident, after her iPod went missing.

PC Stuart Bingham said: “A man and woman, who had clearly been drinking alcohol, boarded the train at Maryport and sat near to the victim who was listening to music on an iPod.

“Shortly after the train left Maryport the victim felt someone tugging on her earphones and noticed the iPod was missing.

“She challenged the man and woman who both denied taking the iPod and became extremely abusive and threatening.

“The woman then handed over the iPod to the victim, claiming she had found it, but continued to be threatening and abusive.”

Following the incident, the couple left the train at Workington and the victim reported the incident to British Transport Police.

PC Bingham added: “We have conducted a number of enquiries and have managed to isolate the CCTV images of two people we believe have key information about the incident.

“If you recognise them, or have any other information about the incident, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information should call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

In all calls quote log NWA/B3 of 20/12/13.
