A BURGLAR stole £45,000 cash and jewellery from an 83-year-old Ulverston man’s home.
Yesterday police received a report from the pensioner that he had discovered items had been stolen.
He found that £45,000 cash had been stolen from a place in his home that he believed to be safe. Also taken was an amount of gold sovereigns and gold Krugerrand coins, which originate from South Africa. An amount of jewellery was missing, including a Rolex watch, bracelets, chains and earrings.
Detective Constable Ross Woods, said: “The victim has been left devastated by this theft. The money was his life savings and he is of a generation who have a mistrust of banks and therefore kept the money at home.
“We are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward. If you have been offered the items for sale or know of someone who as suddenly got a large sum of money, please let us know.”
Anyone with information can contact Cumbria Police on 101 and ask to speak to DC Woods. Alternatively they can contact Crimestoppers, the independent charity, on 0800 555 111.
