Last updated at 15:54, Sunday, 24 February 2013
POLICE are working to identify a body found in a flat.
They are investigating after the man was found in Barrow on Monday evening.
It is believed he had been dead for some time before being found, although it is not clear exactly how long he lay undiscovered,
Officers were called to reports of a sudden death in Albert Street at 7.10pm after a visitor to the flat found the body.
They attended and found the man, believed to be local and aged in his 40s, inside one of the flats.
Although it is believed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, police have spent the last four days attempting to formally identify the man and inform his family.
The coroner has been informed and it is understood a postmortem examination is being carried out.
A spokeswoman for the South and East Cumbria coroner’s office said it was not yet known when an inquest into the death would be opened, but it is expected to be early next week.
Anyone with information about the death can contact Barrow police on 101.
