Blues star Bob is club's biggest name

AMERICAN blues star Bob Malone makes a high-profile visit to Furness on Friday to play for the Barrow R&B Club.

The Los Angeles-based keyboardist and singer has shared the stage with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Rickie Lee Jones and Rev Al Green, but now he brings his solo show to the UK for a nationwide tour.

Kicking off last week at the Colne Blues Festival, he pitches up at Bar Continental, in Abbey Road, on Friday for a run-through of his back catalogue, including the latest recording, The Mojo EP.

He has toured extensively as a solo artist since the early 90s, playing an average of 100 shows a year in the US, Europe, Australia and Asia.

He has recorded seven CDs since his 1995 debut disc The Darkest Part Of The Night, with a number of them earning Top-20 spots on the Living Blues, Roots Music Report and Earshot radio charts, and are played on stations worldwide.

An endorsee of Hammond Organs, and a member of John Fogerty’s studio band, his recent TV appearances include The Late Show With David Letterman.

His sound is a one-of-a-kind hybrid of blues, rock, and New Orleans R&B, delivered with high-energy piano virtuosity and a voice all his own.

The show at Bar Continental, Abbey Road, starts around 9pm and there will be a small charge on the door.
