Play gets a proper makeover

VICTORIA Wood is to direct a new version of her play Talent, a comedy with songs, at the Old Laundry Theatre in Bowness from August 27 to September 12.

Tickets for the show by the multi award winning comedienne go on sale from early next month.

Original music and lyrics are by the star herself.

The set designs will be by Roger Glossop who is a co-founder and director of the Old Laundry Theatre.

Lighting is by Paul Anderson and musical supervision is by Nigel Lilley.

Talent is co-produced with the Menier Chocolate Factory in London and will be performed there from September 17 until November 14.

The plot revolves around a talent night at a nightclub where contestant Julie and her fat friend Maureen are waiting backstage.

As they are plunged into a world of ukulele-wielding pensioners, a seedy compere and some long-buried personal history, Julie and Maureen have to decide how lucky they really want to be.

Talent was originally commissioned by David Leland for the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield and was first performed in 1978.
