Look, the police have a difficult job; looking for speeding motorists and spending thousands on procescuting minor number plate infringements. Then since the council closed all the toilets, they have the further hassle of looking for prostate sufferers releiving themselves in the backstreets. They also have to speed up and down Ainsle Street in their vans and to top it all off, they get critisised when they have to turn up with a van and two cars to question children in the street.
Lets not hear anymore about this. What do you want them to do! Catch Criminals or something?!

Question for R Peel on his rather snide letter.Where are all the officers that he mentioned "moved to the town centre".There are none in Newbarns,Roose,Longway,Salthouse,Vulcan,Ormsgill aresa at any time of day.Yes you may see a van if your lucky with two individuals in. I say individuals because they may not be police officers.I used to respect the police now I would not give you the time of day.The pay cut is richly deserved.

R Peel,( made up name for the plod?)Yet again you jump in to a debate with your size 12s, to try & rubbish some one who may be offering there point of view, If you are a serving officer then good luck to you but,you dont offer any relevant answers,& other than having a dig at folk adding there comments, your time maybe better spent watching re-runs of Miss Marple?

liz , who gives you the authority to say the town center is a ghetto ??? true its badly lit and yes we do feel like second class citizens as our beloved council do not seem to want to spend money on street lighting , but many respectable people live in town so please thing in future about your comments and dont tar every one with the same brush

@Liz, very insightful comments. However they are inaccurate. This happened in a private dwelling as such the issue of street lighting is irrelevant. It is easy to say the town Center is badly policed but toffee to solution to that problem. You see of you move all officers into the town center area then the people in other areas of the town will suffer. Y would be shocked to know how few police officers there re actually are on the streets throughout a 24 hour period and I don't mean a weekend night. So perhaps from the comfort of your arm chair you like to share your expertise in policing with the rest of us.

Even so I have to agree with Liz the town centre after dark is a scary place with not a police officer in sight.Especially at the top end of Dalton Rd.I do wish the police would patrol it more.Where do they all go once it's dark.
