While driving past I thought that the building was much better than the architect's impression, then I realised that I was looking at the site offices.

Have your say
My thoughts remain the same.
Whilst I will do all I can to support Furness Academy provide the educational excellence we all want, I still believe that the school, its pupils, staff and the Borough have been sold short. The building is on what were playing fields and whilst the rest of the country frantically tries to save such open spaces, County Council demanded the loss of this space to accommodate an industrial looking building.Had there not been an alternative I might have better understood the logic. However, when there were acres of other less-used land available on the site, it beggars belief why County imposed a restricted footprint on Furness Academy instead of asking, "what is the best place for the school and what does Furness Academy actually want? How many of those involved with the school would have said, build on the existing sports field? How many would have preferred the opportunity to place the new build in an equally elevated position as the existing structure, whilst retaining all the existing green fields and developing state of the art sports facilities. It really is not a difficult choice and which I suspect I know the answer to.It could have been done; it appears that some just didn't have the vision or the will to do it. However, the new school will have my support and I wish all involved every success and will do all I can to help.Posted by RAY GUSELLI on 31 July 2012 at 12:12
