Celebration for Big Clean crusaders

VOLUNTEERS of all ages who gave up their time to clean up their communities will be celebrated in a special supplement.

Schoolchildren and members of the community rolled up their sleeves and collected rubbish across Furness, Millom and South Lakes as part of The Big Clean campaign, organised by the North-West Evening Mail.

The litter picking crusaders, who battled terrible weather to tidy up streets, villages, nature reserves, beaches and footpaths, will feature in an eight-page supplement published in the Evening Mail on Saturday.

Other locations which have been cleaned up so far by the community include Chetwynde School, in Barrow, John Ruskin School, in Coniston, Roanhead, George Romney School, in Dalton, Ulverston Victoria High School and Cartmel Priory Secondary School.

The Big Clean, which is in its second year, has been taking place over the last two weeks.

The Evening Mail’s campaign is supported by Barrow Borough Council, South Lakeland District Council, Copeland Borough Council and Centrica.
