The 11-year-old raised hundreds of pounds to support youngsters with Niemann-Pick disease – known as children’s Alzheimer’s – including her seven-year-old cousin Taylor Smith.

On Saturday, eight Furness Academy students walked from Cavendish Dock to Roa Island, wearing pyjamas.

So enthused was the group when they completed the journey that they did it twice, covering 12 miles.

Chantelle’s proud mum Paula O’Hara, of Greengate Street, Barrow, said: “She worships the ground Taylor walks on and wanted to do something to help him.”

Taylor, a pupil at Vickerstown Primary School, was 14 months old when he was diagnosed.

Family, friends and supporters have entered the Keswick to Barrow walk as Team Taylor. To join the team, call Taylor’s mum Stephanie O’Hara on 07709 804957.
