Barrow's Cast youth theatre group presents High School Musical

A BARROW theatre group took to the stage to put their own mark on a hit Disney Channel movie.

Local youth theatre, Cast, performed to a full house last week at The Forum with their take on High School Musical.

The show featured secret romances and saboteurs and, as Meryn Nixon, who played drama queen diva, Sharpay Evans, explained, the theatre group, aged from eight to 21, worked together “like one big family” to put on a top show.

The musical tells the story of the relationship between jock, Troy Bolton, and brainiac, Gabriella Montez (played by Christopher Barker and Connie Svatins). When Troy and Gabriella get a call back for the school winter musical, not everyone is as happy as composer Kelsi Neilson (Hayley Dent).

As spoilt brat, Sharpay Evens, and her brother Ryan try to sabotage the musical, it is not going to be an easy term for the high school bunch.

Dave Stockton, who played basketball hot shot, Chad Danforth, said: “It was hard learning all of the songs and the dances, but it was harder learning the basketball scenes.”
