MOTORISTS face another 10 days of diversions after scheduled roadworks were delayed.
Resurfacing on a section of Holker Street around the Barrow AFC football ground had been due to be completed by July 4.
However, workers from Cumbria Highways discovered problems with electric cabling under the road and the work and diversions have now been extended until July 20.
A Cumbria Highways spokesman said: “When they have been doing the works the engineers have found some issues with the electric cabling underneath.
“United Utilities has taken the opportunity to get the issues
sorted.
“Work is now due to be completed by July 20, provided that the weather clears up a bit.
“A section of Holker Street will remain closed until then.”
However when contacted by the Evening Mail, United Utilities said it no longer carries out electrical work in the area. Electricity North West has confirmed it is carrying out work on the electricity cabling which has resulted in the delay.
Work started on the resurfacing at the beginning of June and had originally been scheduled to take four weeks.
Motorists have been forced to take alternative routes around the section of the road between Chatsworth Street and Wilkie Road, leading some to cut through Asda’s car park.
