Barrow residents detain suspect

RESIDENTS helped police to apprehend a man alleged to have damaged up to 20 cars.

The suspect was detained by residents after witnesses reported seeing a man damaging car wing mirrors in the Sutherland Street, Ramsden Street and Marsh Street areas of Barrow at around midnight on Saturday. Police said between 15 and 20 wing mirrors were damaged.

PC Malcolm Lowe, of Barrow police, said: “Witnesses came forward and assisted police in apprehending the suspect.

“We would encourage anyone who lives in the area and had their car damaged in the incident to come forward and speak to police.”

A 19-year-old man from Barrow has been arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.
