Barrow model pupils’ show

HIPPY chick styles and neon leg warmers were in evidence when school children put on a catwalk fashion show.

The pupils of Ormsgill Primary school were emulating the likes of Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss when they took to the stage on Tuesday.

Deputy headteacher, Steven Herbert, said that the fashion show was inspired by work on a modern history topic on the 1960s, 70s and 80s that the Year Four and Five classes have been following for the last few weeks.

The 28 children, aged between eight and 10, got involved with every aspect of the catwalk show.

They even helped choose the music they would be strutting down the catwalk to at the show.

The kids were played a selection of music from each era in class to pick from.

Mr Herbert said: “The music for the show started off in the 60s with ‘Leaders of the Pack’ and finished with music from Dexys Midnight Runners”.

The deputy head hailed the show, that was held in the school hall, as a great success.

Many parents and grandparents turning up to show their support, said Mr Herbert.

He added: “It was fantastic. Everybody got into the spirit of it.

“The best thing about the topic was the amount of parental involvement.

They were able to relate and help the kids with it.

“I think some of the parents enjoyed it more than the kids!”

However, he added that the pupils had got a great deal out of the whole experience, saying: “The children had a fantastic time”.
