Barrow coast to go under the hammer

BIDS are being invited for an historic stretch of Furness coastline – that once belonged to William the Conqueror – which is set to be sold off at auction next week.

Have your say

The land for sale is known as manorial waste land I.e. the land between the coast road and the sea "High water mark".

I think that the land for sale stretches all the way from Bardsea to Roosebeck.

So this will be a big bit of the coast line that will fall into private hands, private beaches, pony paddocks, fishing huts perhaps?

Or perhaps the Crown is selling off the land before global warming and the effects of rising sea levels take it back.

One thing for sure I don't think that this will improve public access to the beach.

Whats the point of buying it? You cant build anything on it. It would get washed away at high tide. Someone is just trying to make a fast buck. I hope they fail
