Barrow brothers who filmed as they attacked man face jail
Last updated at 16:44, Friday, 09 November 2012
TWO brothers have admitted carrying out a serious attack on a man – and filming it on a mobile phone.
At Preston Crown Court yesterday Mark Wilson, 24, of Newport Street, Barrow, denied attempted murder, but pleaded guilty to wounding Mr Halls with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
His 26-year-old brother, James Wilson, of Church Street, Barrow, had pleaded guilty to wounding with intent on an earlier court date.
Both men also admitted robbing Mr Halls of mobile phones, three hip flasks and a plastic box on June 25 this year.
Their pleas were accepted by the prosecution at yesterday’s hearing.
The footage recorded on the mobile phone at the time has since been placed on a DVD which will be viewed by the judge before sentencing takes place.
Mr Tim Storrie, prosecuting, said much of what was said between the parties during the assault was recorded.
“There was a great deal indicative, not of an attempt to murder, but of an enterprise to persist in a brutal assault upon Richard Halls.
“The second stage of consideration was to look at the medical evidence, to see whether or not that undermined the prosecution proposition of attempted murder.
“The Crown’s view is that the evidence supported the defence contention – that the enterprise was not that of attempt to murder.”
Mr Richard Vardon, defence barrister for Mark Wilson, told the court: “We accept the nature of the unpleasant enterprise that the Crown describes.”
The case was adjourned for pre-sentence reports and the pair will be sentenced on December 7.
Judge Stuart Baker told the defendants: “Inevitably, very substantial terms of imprisonment will be imposed.”
The Wilson brothers were both remanded in custody.
