YOUNG campaigners have been inspired by working with the Barrow and Furness MP and an award-winning apprentice.

Youngsters taking part in the Furness Future Leaders Academy heard from the scheme's founder, John Woodcock MP, and also GSK Ulverston apprentice Joe Hambley.

Pupils who are attending the summer scheme are working on projects as local and global campaigners, communicators and managers.

The campaigners received advice on campaigning from Mr Woodcock, who used examples such as the Thousand Voices maternity campaign to protect services at Furness General Hospital maternity unit.
Joe Hambley was the project leader for the GSK Ulverston apprentices who won Apprentice Team of the Year at the national finals of the Brathay Apprenticeship Challenge.

Mr Hambley told the young people how he and his team mates produced an emotional asthma awareness campaign as part of the legacy for Josh West, an Ulverston boy and talented footballer, who died last year after suffering an asthma attack just ahead of his 12th birthday.

The campaign is based around an awareness video featuring Josh's family and medics which explains what to do to save someone's life in the event of an asthma attack. This is a long-term project which continues to spread vital messages about helping people with condition.
