A YOUNG photographer who was booked to capture a couple's special day was ditched by the bride-to-be because of her multi-coloured hair.

Becca Louise Carter had agreed to cover the wedding for just £30 as she made efforts to build up her portfolio.

Now she feels she has been the victim of discrimination, saying it is talent, not appearance which matters.

She said: "I feel that this was really unfair and discriminatory, I felt really disappointed and I wouldn't want this to happen to anybody else.

"I feel quite angry that somebody would discriminate on something like the brightly coloured nature of my hair, it should be talent that matters."

Miss Carter, 22, of Sutherland Street, in Barrow, has a photography degree from the University of Cumbria, where she studied for three years.

She is now self-employed and working freelance. She is trying to build up her portfolio and was recently booked for a wedding at the Netherwood Hotel in Grange.

She says the couple seemed very keen at first – especially when they learned Miss Carter was only asking for a £30 payment.

She added: "I had been booked for the couple's wedding and I wasn't charging too much as I need to gain more experience but close to the date they contacted me and said they no longer wanted me to work.

"I asked why and the couple told me that they had not realised my hair was multi-coloured and I don't think they thought it would fit in with the tone of their wedding."

Miss Carter says she will continue with her endeavours to succeed in the photographic industry, and although she did not want to disclose the identity of the couple who discriminated against her, she hopes that they will think twice about disappointing other people in the future.
