A woman has died in a horrific road collision which happened yesterday afternoon at 12.10.
The incident happened on the A591 at Ings in between Windermere and Kendal.
An 81-year-old woman was driving a blue Honda Jazz which collided head on with a silver Vauxhall Astra.
A 56 year-old male driver and his 91 year-old passenger, both from Bolton-le-Sands were badly injured in the crash and airlifted to Preston hospital for extensive treatment.
The passenger was described as in a critical condition and the driver serious but stable.
The 81-year-old woman from Staveley was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.
Road closures were in place for more than four hours after the collision and police are urging anyone who might have seen the incident to come forward and call 101, asking for PC 1618.
