THE wife of a well-known Barrow cafe owner has died two years after her husband passed away.

Jill Brucciani, who was married to Lorenzo, died with her family by her side on December 20 at Furness General Hospital aged 81.

Mrs Brucciani has been described by her family as the "beloved wife of the late Lorenzo, adored mother of Nicholas, Francesca, Mark and Lisa, loving grandmother of Christian, Chiara, Isaac and Finlay, sister to Susan and cherished mother-in-law and aunt".

Mrs Brucciani's family paid tribute to "all who loved and cared for her". A private family funeral has already been held.

Mr Brucciani, whose family created the famous Brucciani’s ice cream, died in June 2015 aged 82.

With the family running two cafes in Barrow, both in Dalton Road, Brucciani’s was one of several successful cafe businesses operated by Italian families in Barrow and Ulverston.

Brucciani's in Dalton Road, known for the pin ball machine, sipping hot Vimto and the sound of the milk frothing machine, closed almost 30 years ago.

The founder of Brucciani’s was Luigi, who had walked from Italy to Britain in the early 1800s, bringing with him the art of ice-cream making.

From Italy to Barrow, Brucciani’s was born, supplying the people of Barrow their daily fix of coffee and sweet treats.

Brucciani’s in Barrow may be gone but the family business is still serving coffee and ice cream to the masses in Morecambe, Preston and Leicester.
