ESSENTIAL maintenance works will force the A590 in Cumbria to close overnight as crews prepare for up to three weeks of work.

From Monday October 9 two to three weeks of work have been scheduled. This is to carry out resurfacing work on the Eastbound carriageway.

A spokesman from Highways England said repairs to the drainage network and kerbs will also be carried out, as well as replacement of the road markings.

The bulk of the work will be carried out in the Lindale Hill area, near Grange.

In order for work crews to quickly and safely complete the maintenance there will be a number of carriageway closures.

These are:

Lane one of the Eastbound carriageway will be closed entirely between October 9 and October 24.

There will be a total closure of the Eastbound carriageway on these dates:

8pm on 16 October until 6am on 17 October.

8pm on 17 October until 6am on 18 October.

8pm on 18 October until 6am on 19 October.

8pm on 19 October until 6am on 20 October.

An overnight diversion will be in place, running between the Brettargh Holt roundabout, through Bowness to Newby Bridge.
