LONDON stands bloodied but not broken after a suspected terror attack yesterday which has so far killed four and injured dozens.

A massive police operation is under way in the capital and across the UK as officers try to uncover the motive behind the attack outside the Houses of Parliament.

Prime Minister Theresa May was defiant in a speech given outside Downing Street last night, saying the UK would not give in to terror.

She said: "Parliament will meet as normal. We will come together as normal. And Londoners – and others from around the world who have come here to visit this great city – will get up and go about their day as normal.

"They will board their trains, they will leave their hotels, they will walk these streets, they will live their lives. And we will all move forward together. Never giving in to terror. And never allowing the voices of hate and evil to drive us apart."

London mayor Sadiq Khan said: "London is the greatest city in the world and we stand together in the face of those who seek to harm us and destroy our way of life."

Overnight there were arrests made by counter terrorist police across the UK, including at addresses in London and Birmingham.

This is what we know so far about the Westminster attack:

:: Four people have died - a police officer, the attacker, a woman in her mid 40s and a man in his mid 50s.

PC Keith Palmer :: The officer was PC Keith Palmer, a 48-year-old husband and father with 15 years of police service.

:: Seven people have been arrested and six addresses raided across London, Birmingham and elsewhere.

:: The woman was killed on Westminster Bridge as a number of pedestrians were mowed down by a grey Hyundai i40.

:: It is believed the man was also killed in the incident on the bridge.

:: Seven people are in a critical condition, and 29 have been treated in hospital.

:: One woman ended up in the Thames and was treated for serious injuries after being pulled from the water.

:: The attacker, armed with two large knives, jumped out of the car after smashing it into the railings encircling the Palace of Westminster, fatally stabbing PC Palmer as he entered the grounds.

:: He was shot dead moments later by another officer.

:: Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has said the working assumption is that the attack is linked to Islamic terrorism.

:: A group of French schoolchildren were among those targeted on the bridge, with three injured.

:: Prime Minister Theresa May later chaired a meeting of the Government's emergency Cobra committee, branding the attack "sick and depraved."

Cumbrian MPs reacted to the terrible events they were caught up in.

Barrow and Furness MP John Woodcock said: “I was on my way to vote with a crowd of MPs through Old Palace Yard, in sight of Parliament Square, when shots were fired and we were all ushered at top speed back to a secluded part of Portcullis House.

"Days like this remind us all of the enormous debt we in public life owe to the men and women who put themselves in harm's way to keep us safe."

MP Tim Farron MP Tim Farron was 50 yards away from the attacker when he struck.

He said:"I was with a group of between 200 and 300 people, we were all bundled out through a small revolving door by police and taken to New Scotland Yard. It was terrifying."
