A BARROW woman became a princess for a day as she said "I do" to her partner of almost 13 years.

Janice Fay (née Anderson) married her long-term partner, Mike Fay, in a beautiful ceremony at Clarence House Country Hotel this morning.

The wedding was a touching and joyous occasion as family and friends gathered together to see the couple finally tie the knot, but the day was tinged with sadness as the bride continues to battle incurable cancer.

Describing it as "the perfect day", Mrs Fay said: "It's been all I've dreamed about and more.

"I've been with Mike for almost 13 years and I've been dreaming about this for years.

"It was the one thing on my bucket list and my two friends made it happen."

Mrs Fay has been fighting non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and has been receiving cancer treatment alongside her two friends, Adele Dean and Wendy Smith.

The three friends had been discussing their bucket lists but Mrs Fay only had one thing she wanted to do: get married.

Mrs Dean and Mrs Smith quickly took to task and decided to organise the wedding in honour of their friend.

Mrs Dean said: "I just put a little thing on Facebook explaining that my friend had inoperable cancer and that the only thing on her bucket list was a wedding.

"In about three days we had everything we needed."

After hearing Mrs Fay's story, businesses and individuals across the area dug deep to give this brave woman the wedding she always desired.

Victoria Barber-Bolam quickly offered the use of Clarence House Country Hotel in Dalton for the ceremony and wedding breakfast, and was quickly followed by Barrow Golf Club offering the use of their function room for the evening reception and the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel donating their honeymoon suite.

Mrs Dean said: "Barrow people are just fantastic. I love this area because the people are amazing.

"They stick with their own and when the chips are down they really rally round."

Mrs Smith added: "We were overwhelmed - we still are. It makes me proud to be a Barrovian."

Every detail about the day was a big surprise for both bride and groom, but the pair were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone involved.

Mr Fay said: "It's been amazing really. I just can't believe the kindness of people. It's everything we could have wanted."

Mrs Fay added:"We couldn't have done it without the community.

"It's been absolutely brilliant - the perfect day."
