A WEATHER warning issued for snow in Cumbria for today has been updated to include the Barrow area.

The Met Office says between four and eight centimetres of snow could settle on higher ground.

The yellow weather warning is in place for Cumbria from 12 noon on Tuesday November 8 until 9am on Wednesday.

The Met Office predicts the rain is likely to turn to snow overnight on Tuesday into Wednesday morning.

The chief forecaster said: "A band of rain spreading slowly in will turn to snow as it encounters cold air.

"Whilst this will be mainly on high ground, and heavier bursts could easily bring snow down to low levels.

"Overnight into Wednesday morning, there are concerns that heavier bursts could bring snow more widely down to low levels over parts of eastern England, though at this stage there is low confidence. "
