A MOTHER who resorted to grabbing a woman by the hair and stamping on her face repeatedly to break up a fight has been jailed.

Kirsty Davidson, 28, of Teasdale Road, Walney, pleaded guilty to assaulting Kathryn Bolger and Lorraine Crorken at Furness Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Davidson, who has 31 previous convictions for 52 offences and recently served time for a robbery, was enjoying a night out with Claudie-jo Moffett, 24, on May 3 at the Victoria Hotel in Church Street, Barrow.

CCTV footage showed Moffett hitting Miss Crorken over the head with a pool ball. Remarkably, she sustained no serious injuries from the blow to the head, the court heard.

Moffett then got in a fight with Miss Bolger before Davidson grabbed the victim by her ponytail and pulled her to the floor before stamping on her face several times.

Miss Bolger suffered a black eye, bruising to her collarbone and red scrapes on her cheek. She will receive £1,500 in compensation from Davidson as a result of her injuries.

Sentencing Davidson to 26 weeks in prison, presiding magistrate Mr Everley Buckley said: "I don't think in all my years as a magistrate I have ever witnessed anything as bad as this. It was unprovoked, it was in a licenced premises and it was alcohol-fuelled."

Mr Trystan Roberts, defending, said: "When I spoke to her for the first time today and showed her the CCTV footage she was thoroughly ashamed of herself and quite distressed at having to watch what had happened.

"This woman has not gone out looking for trouble, she has gone out for a pleasant evening with her friend who is in a rather confrontational mood. There is genuine remorse and she is thoroughly ashamed of herself."

"This is a defendant who is heavily motivated to improve her position and is trying to rebuild so she can have contact with her son."

Moffett also pleaded guilty to two counts of assault and will appear before magistrates on July 19 for sentencing.
