A MIDWIFE from Walney who stands accused of threatening a child he claims bullied his children is vowing to clear his name.

Christopher Philip Cooper's wife Tracey, said her husband cannot speak about the case personally due to Nursing and Midwifery Council guidelines.

She added that he could lose his job regardless of the outcome.

The 45-year-old said they "never in a million years" expected things to end like this. She claimed they just wanted to protect their children.

Cooper is charged with a section four public order offence after allegedly approaching a child outside a  school on March 3. The 37-year-old, of Duddon Drive, Walney, is accused of using threatening or abusive behaviour.

He appeared before Furness Magistrates' Court yesterday and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Cooper was defended at the hearing by Mr Trystan Roberts. The case was adjourned for trial on July 14 at 12pm.

The midwife hit headlines across the world after his Facebook post about alleged bullying of his son and daughter went viral and was shared more than 100,000 times. He had claimed his complaints were not taken seriously.

Speaking at their home after the hearing, his wife said: "He can't really say anything about what's happening due to NMC guidelines.

"He has pleaded not guilty and will now stand trial in July.

"He is vowing to clear his name because he hasn't done anything wrong.

"Never in a million years did we think we would end up here by asking someone to stop bullying.

"He could lose his job over this whatever the outcome but like he says his kids are more important than any job."
