WALKERS are being encouraged to put their best foot forward at a Barrow charity event.

The British Heart Foundation's annual Barrow/Walney Walk takes place on Sunday and individuals and families can enter on the day.

Walkers can get involved in either the five-mile Walney walk or the 12-mile Barrow walk that takes in Furness Abbey.

Those wanting to enter on the day can do for a £10 fee and meeting at The Dock Museum in Barrow at 10.45am.

Those who are already registered are asked to meet at the museum to be ready to set off at 11.15pm.

The money raised is going towards the BHF’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal which is taking the fight to people suffering from heart failure. The BHF has funded £25m into this regenerative research across the UK and scientists say that they are now within touching distance of seeing results that will reverse the damage to the heart through a heart attack, damage that was once understood to be permanent.

The walks have been organised by the BHF Barrow Fundraising Group - volunteers who have come together to help sign up participants and promote this popular walks.

The BHF's mascot Mr Hearty will be at the event, as will FurryNess the mascot of Furness Building Society which sponsors the event.

Barbara Dunn, BHF fundraising manager for Lancashire and South Lakes, said: "The weather forecast is lovely. It will be a lovely day and we welcome people to come along and register on the day and support The British Heart Foundation."

Those wanting to find out more about organising their own fundraising event for the BHF’s Mending Broken Hearts Appeal, or volunteering with the charity, can contact Mrs Dunn or visit bhf.org.uk
